After getting a new road cover, replacing the tank level sender and battery, re-wiring the radio, sound system and front navigation light, greasing the steering, changing the oil, and filling the 28-gallon gas tank, the old girl is ready for the summer :) Now all I have to do is soak those gross-ass bowrider handles in bleach or something for a few hours and we should be good to go for the rest of the season.

Those bring back a lot of good memories, my uncle used to have a similar looking one, what brand is it and which engine?

Bayliner 185 with the 3.0L Mercruiser, pretty much the everyman’s speedboat around here. Good little boat, just wish it had a little more power though lol, I can barely get it over 50 with just me in it.

Cool, the ones he owned were Bayliners too, I think the last one even was a v8 powered one, it was awesomely fast. They’re quite rare here in the Netherlands, since most boats here are focussed less on speed and more on gently boating about, with speedboats only being popular with the waterskiing and wakeboarding crowds, which my uncle did.

I hope for your sake you don't live some where, where summer ends August first lol.

I would love to get a shitty old boat and fix it up. However I plan on doing that with an old sail boat so I can look forward to retirement. 42 years should be enough time to buy and restore a nice sized sailboat shouldn't it?

Don’t see why not, most boats (sailboats especially) are pretty easy to fix up to begin with, would make a great little retirement project.

I meant mostly from a financial aspect. I would like to get one of the wooden ones that people are always offering for free. They are money pits but so are most fun car project.

That’s badass dude, got any pics you could post now? I love old ski boats, they’re just so freaking cool.

Yeah there’s a reason a lot of those old ones are free lol. But just like cars you don’t care it’s a money pit once it’s up and running, you’re just happy it works and that it’s worth it.

Picture posting is taking too long, my Tumblr page for it

You will note the upgrade from the X-type with a Bike Rack to the BMW 535 in the background, I haven’t updated since we got the carpet done, engine back in and interior. Just the fuel system and wiring to go.

Free old junk is better than old junk that costs money and take almost literally a ton to fix haha. But your last sentence is spot on.

Fuckin’ dope ass Bayliner dude. Meanwhile I’m here with a 30 year old Wahoo! 1750 Offshore (yeah I’ll fuckin’ believe that part when i see it), but I should just be greatful I have a boat at all. Nothing beats getting out on the water. Boats kick the shit outta cars in fun factor IMO.

That was a cool read dude, I love seeing other people’s projects, especially ones that start so sketchy as yours lol. Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks bro. Boats totally kick ass, there’s just so much more shit you can do with them than a car. Can the Wahoo tow tubes and stuff? Bet that’d be a fucking riot out in the ocean with the waves.

Fuck yeah it can! I've never actually had it on the ocean, because i took it in the inlet once and it was SKETCHY on the waves.

That. Is. Awesome.

I have a big bowrider (Regal), which is comfortable in chop, but isn’t a speed demon. However, my sister has a Malibu sportster LX with a 350. It’s a freaking go cart for the water. It has about half as many grab handles as the passengers need to stay in their seats. Your new (old) boat is a little bigger, but should be just as much fun.

I’ve told several potential boat-owners that they should buy a derelict and redo the floor, engine, seats and instruments. If you still want a boat after that, buy one! If you get halfway through and say “F’ this”, you just saved cubic yards of cash. (Two people followed my advice - and loved it.)

I’ve bookmarked your tumblr to follow along. Good luck with the rest of the project!
